RWANDA SISTERHOOD ASSOCIATION, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM ANNOUNCES AN INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CONFERENCE UNDER THE THEME WOMEN’S ROLE IN FORGING UNITY AND RECONCILLIATION :

In the month of March each year, women all over the world celebrate the International Women’s Day. They do so to reaffirm their commitment to continued vigilance in advancing women’s rights, but also to celebrate the gains made since the first day was marked in 1911 following the Clara Zetkin’s proposal in Copenhagen, the same year. To add our voice to the call for greater gender equality, the London-based Rwanda Sisterhood Association is holding an International Women’s Conference on Saturday, 15 March 2014 in London, focusing on the Role of Women in Forging Unity and Reconciliation.

Since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi that claimed the lives of over a million people and left hundreds of thousands of battered women survivors, Rwanda has been able to rebuild itself through the power of good leadership – and its focus on unity and reconciliation. During the conference, speakers will share the narrative of Rwanda’s phenomenal journey of rebirth and the role of women in it. We have also organized a series of high profile inspirational speakers to talk to us about issues such as: What impact women in policy-making have made towards the emancipation of women in different parts of the world; Overcoming barriers in business, work places and at homes; and The future for women’s development in the decades ahead.

Conference Goals: The conference provides an opportunity for African women in the diaspora and all sisters in UK to engage in a productive conversation about their present and shared future. It is also an excellent platform for meeting new friends and broadening one’s professional network.

The Rwanda Sisterhood Association is delighted to invite you to join us in this important Women’s Conference.

Date: 15 March 2014 - 11:00 to 17.00

Venue: Southwark Council Offices
